Speech by Dr. Tamás Sulyok on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mór Jókai

We stand before the grave of an exceptional Hungarian, a monument to one of Hungary's intellectual giants. But it is not the sorrow of his passing that has brought us here, but the joy and celebration of the fact that by the grace of the Creator, we have by now enjoyed his legacy for two centuries. We are not here to mourn his absence, but to bow our heads before his memory and thank him for what he left us.

Ladies and Gentlemen! 

I would like to welcome you all warmly and respectfully to this conference on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Constitutional Court. It was a pleasure to come to this event, with many fond memories, to welcome you and to share some of my thoughts about the extraordinary institution of which I myself was a member and then President.

Every year, the Three Seas Initiative (TSI) summit and business forum is organised with the participation of 13 countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia and Bulgaria), situated between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

Tamás Sulyok had a telephone conversation today with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

The President of the State of Israel congratulated Tamás Sulyok on his election as President of Hungary. The two Heads of State reviewed the most important bilateral and international political issues. During the exchange of views, the Hungarian President stressed that Hungary is a close ally and best friend of Israel as well as its strategic partner in Europe.

Today, President Tamás Sulyok, in fulfilment of his constitutional duty, called the election of the members of the European Parliament in Hungary and the general election of local municipality representatives and mayors. 

The first simultaneous elections will take place on 09 June 2024.

The votes express the democratic will of the electorate

On 9 June 2024, on the day of the elections to the European Parliament, local governments and of national minority advocates, Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary and his wife cast their votes in Szeged. After the vote, the President said that since there have been free elections in Hungary, his wife Zsuzsa and he have always exercised their right to vote, and again urged his fellow citizens to vote as well.

Katalin Novák met with Hungarian peacekeepers in Bosnia and Herzegovina-Hercegovinában

Major General László Sticz took over the command of the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the presence of President Novák. 

In her speech delivered at the ceremony, the President of Hungary asked the Hungarian military personnel serving in the mission to be role models, to show that a role in the military means honour, integrity and patriotism.

President of Hungary Katalin Novák visited Sarajevo, where on Tuesday she met with the Members of the Presidency of the State of Bosnia and Herzegovina and held talks with Borjana Krišto, President of the country’s Council of Ministers. 

The agenda included the European integration of the Western Balkans, the EUFOR Althea mission – where command has been assumed by a Hungarian general, Major General László Sticz - demographic issues and the strengthening of economic and cultural relations, Farkas Vajk, Head of Communications of Sándor Palace, told MTI on Tuesday. 

Katalin Novák honours Bishop Béla Kató

President of Hungary Katalin Novák awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary to Béla Kató, Bishop of the Transylvanian Reformed Diocese and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sapientia Foundation, at Sándor Palace in Budapest. 

The President of Hungary described the honoree with the words "greatness in the minority".

Katalin Novák officially proclaims 2024 the Year of Getting Active

President of Hungary Katalin Novák has officially declared 2024 the Year of getting Active.

In her resolution, the President of Hungary called on the representatives of the public and civil sectors to use all means at their disposal to make physical exercise accessible to all and to contribute to the successful implementation of personal commitments to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Katalin Novák in Békés County

As promised, in 2024, the President of Hungary has resumed her visits to the counties. 
In Békés County, the Sándor Palace in remote office programme began, similarly to earlier county visits, with the raising of the national flag with military honours. Local residents graced the event with their attendance.

The Head of State then held talks with the county's leaders and Members of Parliament on the most important issues and problems affecting the region and its inhabitants.

Appointment as General in Sándor Palace

The President of Hungary - on a proposal by the Minister of Finance - appointed Dr. Ferenc Domokos, Colonel of the Financial Guard, to the rank of Brigadier General of the Financial Guard, with effect from 26 January 2024.

 

Appointment as State Secretary in Sándor Palace

On a proposal by the Minister of Defence, President of Hungary Katalin Novák appointed Dr. Zsolt Krisztián Kutnyánszky as State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence with effect from 20 January 2024.
 

Receipt of ambassadorial credentials

President of Hungary Katalin Novák today received letters of credence from two new ambassadors accredited to Hungary. 

With the ceremony, by presenting their letter of credence, His Excellency Malallah Mahmood Shaban Al Balushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman and His Excellency José Ramón Rivero González, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, officially commenced their mission in Hungary.
