"We are interested in a strong and successful Visegrad Cooperation" - Dr. Tamás Sulyok welcomed Peter Pellegrini
President Tamás Sulyok received Peter Pellegrini, Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia, the first foreign guest after his inauguration on Monday at the Sándor Palace. The Hungarian Head of State praised the excellent relations between the two countries, which, according to him, are based on a strategic partnership worthy of good neighbours.
The parties agreed on the importance of the V4, and both are interested and committed to a solid and successful Visegrad cooperation, the Sándor Palace informed MTI, the Hungarian News Agency, on Monday.
Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, highlighted the vital role of national minorities. According to the Hungarian Head of State, the Hungarian minority living in Slovakia and the Slovak minority in Hungary are decisive for good neighbourly relations between the two countries. He added that national identity, culture and education are areas that should be supported. The commitment shown by both parties in this area is also commendable," the President was quoted as saying.
Referring to Monday's inauguration ceremony of the Saint Barbara Bridge linking the two countries, the parties agreed that the construction of bridges is a landmark not only in terms of physical connectivity but also at a political level.
This is further proof of the excellent relations between the two countries, which will hopefully reach a new level following the Slovak presidential elections, the report said.
Peter Pellegrini also met Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Speaker László Kövér before his meeting with the President of Hungary.
