Security and peace is our shared interest – Meeting with Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis
President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok welcomed Ignazio Cassis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, to Sándor Palace. The Swiss Minister is paying a working visit to Budapest.
On the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Hungarian Head of State explained that Hungary supports all initiatives intended to end the bloodshed, and ultimately to create a lasting and just peace. The President of Hungary pointed out that the peace conference in the summer organised by Switzerland corresponds to Hungary’s goodwill activities. They agreed that efforts to create peace promote the best interests of Europe as a whole.
The parties expressed their pleasure at the lively diplomatic relations between Hungary and Switzerland, recalling the recent visit of Viola Amherd, President of the Swiss Confederation, to Hungary, who also held talks with the Hungarian Head of State.
During the meeting, they expressed their hope that progress could be made during the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union the bilateral negotiations currently ongoing on a number of issues between the European Union and Switzerland. President Sulyok confirmed Hungary's support for the further development of relations between the European Union and Switzerland.
