Israel can continue to count on Hungary
The Israeli Head of State visisted Hungary in response to the invitation of President Tamás Sulyok. Isaac Herzog, making a state visit to country, was received by the President of Hungary with military honours at Heroes' Square, and the high-level meeting continued at Sándor Palace.
The two leaders discussed the future of bilateral relations and current international challenges. In a press statement following the meeting, Dr. Tamás Sulyok stressed: „Hungary is a close ally and strategic partner in Europe for Israel. I am convinced that a strong Israel is indispensable not only for the security of the Middle East, but also for that of Europe, for the protection of Europe’s Jewish community and for the fight against anti-Semitism."
The Hungarian Head of State stressed that Hungary will continue to stand up for Israel's right to defend itself and is committed to zero tolerance against anti-Semitism.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog thanked Hungary for its support, especially in the period since the terrorist attacks of 7 October 2023. "These are the moments when true friendship shows itself" the Israeli Head of State said, adding that Hungary has consistently stood by Israel at various international forums as well.
The two Presidents agreed that national sovereignty, the protection of borders and maintaining stability are priorities they both share.
