Inseparable - Representatives of autochtonous nationalities at Sándor Palace
Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, hosted the representatives of Hungary’s nationalities at Sándor Palace.
In his speech to the representatives of the Bulgarian, Greek, Croatian, Polish, German, Armenian, Roma, Romanian, Ruthenian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Ukrainian minorities, the Head of State declared that nationalities are inseparable from Hungary, and their communities are inseparable from the Hungarian nation.
According to Dr. Tamás Sulyok, during the centuries of our community of destiny, our nationalities have become an intergal part of the Hungarian nation, and thus the country. While Hungary has endured many hardships, it has also experienced glorious days, and various nationalities have come to see it as their true home. Hungary has been enriched by 13 unique cultures, each with its own set of values and way of thinking.
The nationalities have left a significant mark on Hungarian culture, customs and traditions, so not only have our lives become common, but our values have also become one, the Head of State pointed out.
Dr. Tamás Sulyok said that he is proud that the fundamental rights of autochtonous nationalities are unquestionable in Hungary today, and that support for the free exercise of their national and cultural identity is self-evident.
In his closing remarks, the President of Hungary wished that "we build the future on a common past and on common struggles, but we live our present with the awareness of our shared belonging".
