Hungarians in Brussels

President Tamás Sulyok visited Brussels to celebrate Hungary’s assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Head of State attended a Hungarian-language Holy Mass, which was conducted by Bishop Gábor Mohos, and besides the sermons, universal prayers were said for Hungary and Europe.

The President of Hungary welcomed the Hungarian community in Belgium to the Liszt Institute in Brussels, where he stated that "Hungarians are everywhere in the world, and there is perhaps no part of the world where you cannot hear the Hungarian language."

The Hungarian Head of State stressed the importance of the unity of communities and said: "Remain united, because in this way you will also strengthen yourselves."
Dr. Tamás Sulyok concluded his speech with a quote by Sándor Márai: "Being Hungarian is not a state of being, being Hungarian is a way of conduct."

At the opening ceremony of Hungary's six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union, held at Bozar, i.e. the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, Dr Tamás Sulyok stressed: "...we have a strong commitment to protect Europe's interests and a strong vision for the future of the continent and for solving its current challenges."

"The strength and value of Europe lies not in the amalgamation but in the aggregation of its nations." - said President Sulyok.

As Dr. Tamás Sulyok put it, " Our European unity is as ancient in origin, as precious, as exquisite and finely crafted as Brussels lace. And it is at least as delicate. If you try to force it, it will eventually tear. But it will also be ruined if one thread breaks, as then the whole becomes unusable. Let us take care of it together!”- the Hungarian Head of State called on the audience.
