Building blocks of hope - Dr. Tamás Sulyok at the jubilee celebration of the Piarist Order
310 years ago, the Piarist Order, active in the spirit of "Pietas et litterae", i.e. "piety and science", raised the flag in Hungary. The first schools were founded in Vác, Kecskemét, as well as in Pest, Szeged and Veszprém.
The celebration took place in the renovated monastery building of the Piarist Lookout Centre in Vác, where church and state leaders met with Piarist fathers and alumni to mark the anniversary.
In his welcome speech, Dr. Tamás Sulyok emphasized: The Piarist Order’s faith has been strong, its loyalty steadfast and its rules clear. Their intentions have been heartfelt. For this reason, more and more young people have embraced the priestly ministry and the teaching profession.
The President of Hungary stressed that from the moment the Piarist monks in Hungary began to work, they educated generations to embrace faith and acquire knowledge, opening up opportunities and bringing dignity to the lives of children in need.
The Piarist school seeks to teach young people that God is present in our lives, that life has meaning, our actions have consequences, our words carry weight, and our efforts yield results - the President said.
At the anniversary ceremony, Dr. Tamás Sulyok, the President of Hungary, expressed his gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the Hungarian nation with a poem by Dezső Keresztúry:
"Let us also rejoice in human goodness (...)
Something has come to life by our hands,
Not for profit, but for spiritual gain."
