Meeting with Ignatius Aphrem II, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch
Dr. Tamás Sulyok welcomed His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, to Sándor Palace.
During the discussion, the President of Hungary emphasized that supporting the Christian communities of the world is a key priority for Hungary, and through the Hungary Helps Programme, our country has been effectively supporting Christian and religious organisations in numerous areas.
Dr. Tamás Sulyok stated that he personally finds the communal practice of faith and supporting monastic life very important.
The Hungarian Head of State and Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II consider the protection and support of Christian communities in Syria and the Middle East as a common cause for them. Hungary has helped the local Church on numerous occasions during natural disasters and in educational, cultural and ecclesiastical developments.
According to Dr. Tamás Sulyok „only loving and understanding each other can bring a solution”. He then added, „Being true to our faith, we can support nothing but peace.”
