Katalin Novák is Chief Patron of the fundraising campaign It’s Good to be Good!

President of Hungary Katalin Novák visited the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Semmelweis University to learn about the professional work pursued there.

Following the visit, it was announced that the Head of State has accepted the patronage of the public media's fundraising campaign "It’s Good to be Good!".

The President of Hungary was also received by Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Semmelweis University Foundation and Beatrix Siklósi, Project Manager of It’s Good to be Good! and Channel Director of Kossuth Radio.

At Semmelweis University, Katalin Novák said that she is confident that the initiative of the public media for a good cause will mean substantial help for the clinic’s neonatal department, and expressed her appreciations for the commitment. The charity campaign "It's good to be good!", by reaching people’s hearts, can help the youngest children, said Katalin Novák, who drew attention to the struggle for premature babies as well as the joy we feel over the birth of new-born babies into our world.

Beatrix Siklósi, Project Manager of It’s Good to be Good! and Channel Director of Kossuth Radio told the Hungarian News Agency MTI: Katalin Novák has accepted the patronage of It’s Good to be Good! and supports this year's campaign. The beneficiary of the public media’s fundraising campaign – this year marking the twelfth such occasion - is Semmelweis University Foundation. Donations will be used for the complex development of the Semmelweis Development Support Centre.

Over the next month, all public media channels will be highlighting the everyday lives of children in need of development support and their families, and how they can be helped. As Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Semmelweis University Foundation, said earlier, the funds raised in the campaign will enable them to expand the Development Support Centre.

By the renovation, the Semmelweis Development Support Centre aims to triple the number of children receiving care there, to around 2,000 children a year, up from the current 650-700. By extending the current age limit of 3-5 years, the aim is to follow premature babies and children with congenital malformations treated at the university's clinics until they are 8 years old.

Semmelweis University Foundation can be supported in several ways: by donating 500 HUF by calling 13600 and entering the number 04, or by sending an SMS to the same number. Once again, the charity campaign of the public media is supporting the work of the Foundation by selling special items. Most of the relics offered by well-known people can be bought at a fixed price on the It’s Good to be Good! website, while some special items will be auctioned during the all-day programme of the public media on 17 December.
