Open Day at Sándor Palace on 17 September 2023

To mark Cultural Heritage Days, Sándor Palace will open its doors to the public on Sunday 17 September.

Visitors are welcome to Sándor Palace from 10 am to 6 pm.

The open day programmes will start on St George's Square in front of the Palace: at noon there will be a changing of the guard with the Budapest Garrison Orchestra, and at 10.00 and 14.00 the Hungarian Defence Forces Central Orchestra will give a free open air concert.

Visitors can also learn about the history of Sándor Palace, refurbished in 2002, and visit the room where Katalin Novák had a private meeting with Pope Francis during the Catholic Pontiff's visit to Hungary. They will also have the opportunity to see where the President of Hungary receives visiting heads of state and where she gives and receives credentials from ambassadors.

Historical rooms that have served a representative function for centuries, such as the Hall of Mirrors, the Red Salon with its painting of Maria Theresa, the neo-baroque Blue Drawing Room also called as Gobelin or Boucher Room and the Empire Salon will also be open to visitors.

Admission is free. Pre-registration is not possible; entry will take place in the order of arrival.
