Katalin Novák consulted her Polish counterpart by telephone

On the occasion of the Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship, President of Hungary Katalin Novák and President of Poland Andrzej Duda had a consultation by telephone on Thursday – the Head of the Communication Directorate of Sándor Palace informed MTI.

Vajk Farkas announced: the two Heads of State reaffirmed the importance of the centuries-old friendship between the two nations and assured each other that they would do their utmost to maintain and strengthen it. "It is a friendship that has stood the test of time and in which solidarity towards each other has always played an important role," he said.

During the friendly telephone conversation, the two Heads of State expressed their pleasure that their good personal relationship could also contribute to strengthening the friendship between the Polish and Hungarian peoples.

As part of her two-day visit to Somogy County, on the Memorial Day for Polish-Hungarian Friendship, President of Hungary Katalin Novák laid a wreath at the House of Polish-Hungarian Friendship in Balatonboglár, the building where Polish refugees received an education at the beginning of the Second World War. The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by the Polish Ambassador to Budapest as well as a delegation from the Polish Parliament.

The Polish parliamentarians expressed their gratitude for "the many times Hungary helped the Polish people". They said that this friendship withstood such difficult times that we have a responsibility to future generations to keep Polish-Hungarian friendship alive, "however difficult it may be for the two countries to understand each other's positions on some issues", the statement revealed.
