We stand for peace, we don't want war - Iraq - Camp Singara
We Hungarians are pro-peace, we don't want war, we want peace in our homes, in our country and on our borders, President Katalin Novák stressed on Saturday at the Erbil military camp in Iraq, where she met with Hungarian troops.
Katalin Novák was received at Camp Singara by Lieutenant Colonel Gábor Hraska, Contingent Commander.
Expressing the respect and gratitude of the Hungarian people, the Head of State underlined that dark clouds are gathering over us, the war in Ukraine has been going on for 10 months now. She drew attention to the danger of escalation and to the need for Hungarian soldiers to ensure and preserve peace.
We need their service. We need a military force that is capable of defending Hungarians and Hungary – Katalin Novák emphasized.
She added: we need experienced soldiers who have not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills, and whose experience and training we can use to defend our own country as well.
Katalin Novák also stressed that our common enemy is international terrorism, "and you are fighting international terrorism here in the Kurdistan Region".
"The Hungarian people are proud of you, you are where you are needed ", she stressed.
The soldiers were also greeted by Tamás Vargha, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, who had already visited Baghdad and Erbil in 2014.
